“When you’re in a hurry, take a detour.” (Chinese proverb)

Leading out of the lotus position?

Mindful leadership is nowadays one of the most discussed topics in the business world.

Many people are wondering whether this development is just a temporary fad or whether it has the potential to establish itself permanently in the long-run.

The latter is much more probable, as mindfulness gives answers to the many challenges we are facing nowadays.

It’s about furthering empathy, compassion, resilience, motivation, the capability of regeneration, self-efficacy, creativity, productivity, concentration, self-assertion, vitality and much more.

Belief systems and a positive image of humanity, as well as common sense, build the basis. Mindful leadership is neither a technique nor a leadership style. It’s about the inner attitude and a measurable leadership concept.

According to studies over 50% of employees in Germany are not content with their supervisors. They feel poorly managed. 82% (!) have already internally quit their jobs and according to a Gallup study from 2013 only 15% of German employees feel a connection to the company they are working for and are voluntarily willing to take a stand for their company’s goals. These are hard facts and figures.

These surveys show why mindfulness is so important in management and leadership and why an increasing number of companies has already established teams and executive departments for mindfulness. For instance, the software producer SAP has their own “Director of Mindfulness”, who represents and promotes this topic.

More and more companies provide their employees with coachings, trainings and rooms for relaxation and power-napping.

The ‘Mindful Leadership’ training from high balance includes content from the Leadership Training SIY Search Inside Yourself” (Chade-Meng Tang), developed by Google, the classical “Emotional Intelligence” (Daniel Goleman) and exercises from the mindfulness programme “MBSR” – “Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction” (Jon Kabat-Zinn).
